Government — adoption is uneven, but the floor just rose
TxDOT is the state's clearest public-sector case: 22,000 staff hours a year saved on one invoice workflow, Microsoft 365 Copilot deployed to 940+ staff, and 200+ AI use cases identified. Three laws effective September 1, 2025 (SB 1964, HB 2818, HB 3512) now require every Texas agency to inventory its AI, stand up an AI division at DIR, and train staff.

Research — the institutions are stepping up
UT Austin drew 600+ people to the state's first Symposium on Machine Learning, Responsible AI, and Robotics in March 2026. Both UT Austin and Rice landed on Forbes' 2026 "New Ivies" list for producing AI-ready graduates.
