How this list was built
- Source: the Top Texas AI Companies dataset. Every investor here is named on a company in that list, which cites three or more independent public sources per company.
- Coverage: up to three named backers per company, as reported in those sources. This is not a complete cap table, and a firm that does not appear may still have invested.
- Ordering: alphabetical. Investors are not ranked. Per-investor amounts are not disclosed in the sources, and a count of companies is a floor, not a measure of size.
- Company totals shown beside an investor are what the company has raised from all investors, not what that investor put in.
- Individuals, founders who funded their own company, and government grant funders are labelled as such. Founders and grant funders are kept out of the multi-company list. Backers the sources do not name ("angel investors") are not counted.
- Name cleaning: a label in brackets after a name (a round, a role, a parent firm) is shown beside the pairing, and two spellings of one firm are merged (Coatue Management is listed as Coatue).
- People: where a pairing names a person, the row quotes the passage from the source that names them.
- Sources: every pairing shows the cited source or sources in which the backer is named. We fetch each company's sources and look for the name; a pairing we cannot find in a source we could read is held off this page and listed below until an editor confirms it.
- Not counted: 1 unnamed group ("Angel investors (San Antonio, San Francisco, Silicon Valley)" on KeepTabz).
